3. Agriculture:
About the Job: Agricultural
technicians work on farms conducting experiments and doing research to find
ways for better production of various crops like grains, fruits and vegetables,
spices or tea, coffee etc. They work with scientists and help to analyze and
record data in crop management. Such technicians must have a bachelor's degree
in agricultural or related sciences.
A
bachelor's degree in agricultural opens the doors to many different scientific
and professional careers related to agriculture. A B Sc. in agriculture
prepares one to become agricultural scientists, food scientists, animal
scientists, microbiologists, wildlife conservationists, farm managers or even
successful farmers on their own land.
There
are many areas in the field of agriculture to choose from. Examples are agricultural
engineering, which is the design of agricultural tools or technology, or
microbiology, which is the study of various microorganisms that make up an
agricultural ecosystem.
A degree in agricultural science can
also focus on business management in the field of agriculture and marketing of
products.
If working on the land with
farmers, a healthy outdoor life excites you, if you have land of your own and
want to make a career of farming, then getting an agricultural degree would be
ideal for you. There is a lot of modernization taking place in the field of
agriculture and organic farm products command premium prices in the market.
Many technically qualified youth from prestigious institutes have turned to
farming with great success. Eligibility and Basic Qualification: The B Sc (Ag.) Agriculture course is a 4 year course under credit based semester system. The minimum qualification for entry to B Sc (Ag.) is +2 in Science (with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and/or Mathematics) or +2 in Agriculture stream offered in some universities. The course curriculum is very broad in scope and covers such diverse disciplines as Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry, Entomology, Food technology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Soil Science etc. There is also a mandatory internship program lasting one semester involving Rural Agricultural work experience. Almost all the courses have practical hands on training in real time environments to ensure students get enough exposure to the various aspects of the scientific aspect of agriculture and farming.
B Tech (Ag. Eng.)
is another 4 year (8 semester) course offered by some of the universities. Agricultural Engineers
are trained in various areas like composition of soil, water management, crop
management and other engineering principles as applied in agriculture. They
provide proper advice for mechanization of agriculture, conservation of produce
and by products, minimization of losses, value addition and agro-processing
enterprises for additional income and employment generation, energy management
in agriculture and rural life. They apply scientific knowledge to help the
traditional agriculturist using their knowledge in the field of farm machinery
and power, dairy and food processing and agricultural structure; land and water
management engineering, energy and aquaculture.
In
most cases you need to qualify at a state level common entrance test like EAMCET
or the all India entrance exam conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural
research or its equivalent conducted by the university of your choice for
getting admission. Most universities have more than one college under them and
some of these colleges have a management quota. The fee structure is different
for those qualifying on merit through the entrance test and for those wanting a
management quota seat. Information regarding dates and venues of the entrance
tests and when to apply are given on the website of the universities.
Reservation for SC/ST/ etc is given in many cases and stipends / scholarships
are also provided to deserving individuals.

Astronomy
/ Astrophysics: Astronomers study the planets, stars and other celestial
body in the known universe using advanced instruments like radio telescopes and
even space telescopes gathering valuable information on the nature and behavior
of celestial bodies, with the aim of understanding their relevance to and
possible impact on our earth.
Astrophysicists analyse data collected from the observations to further
unravel the mysteries of these heavenly bodies.
Sophisticated computers and satellite based data are meticulously
analysed for enriching our understanding the universe.
Astronomy has various branches and it depends on
what you wish to do. One can go into the area of theoretical astrophysics where
studying celestial bodies and phenomena and analyzing and interpreting them is
the focus; or take up the designing and construction of sophisticated instruments
for studying outer space from ground based or orbiting space stations.
Eligibility & Basic
Qualification: Exceptionally talented students with an aptitude for
physics and mathematics can complete their graduation, opt for a post graduate
degree in Physics or Astronomy and thereafter take up a research program

9. Ayurveda: Ayurveda is the ancient Indian system of natural and holistic medicine. When translated from Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “the science of life” (the Sanskrit root Ayur means “longevity” or “life” and veda means “science”. It is a Hindu system of curative medicine which originated in India. Ayurveda is the world’s oldest known medical science, and is over 5,000 years old. The main source of this ancient knowledge is the Vedas or the divine books of knowledge propounded by the sages. Apart from being a healthcare system, Ayurveda is the science of a perfect lifestyle adopted to maintain perfect balance and harmony within the human body. According to Ayurveda, life represents a combination of the Atma (soul), Mana (mind), Indriyan (senses) and Sharira (body). It revolves around the five elements (Panchamahabhutas) that constitute an individual's nature or Prakriti. This nature is determined by the vital balance of the three physical energies - Vata, Pitta and Kapha - and the three mental energies - Sattva, Rajas and Tamas.
